Estonian EV charging network developer Eleport raises €5M

Tallinn-based EV charging network developer Eleport has raised €5M from Helsinki-based energy company Gren and Estonian investment company Ambient Sound Investment, established by Skype’s founders. Before the deal, Gren already owned 53,47% of Eleport.

Founded in 2016 by Raul Potisepp, Eleport provides electric car charging services, including charger management and maintenance. In March 2024, Eleport opened a charging point in Tallinn with a capacity of 300 kW, which can charge six cars up to 150 kW.

Eleport will use the investment to increase the number of charging points in the Baltics and Poland to 1,35K by the end of the year, with 56 new charging points planned for Estonia. Additionally, the company will focus on attracting new customers and strengthening its presence in the B2B market, for example, with the fleet operators of companies with new contracts or larger retail chains. Eleport plans to increase its team by 40%.

Ambient Sound Investments (ASI) was established in 2003 by four founding engineers of Skype who hold a minority stake in Skype. The founders are Toivo Annus, Priit Kasesalu,  Ahti Heinla and Jaan Tallinn. At the end of 2005, ASI sold its stake in Skype to eBay and now operates as a private asset management firm. ASI's investment portfolio consists of assets that are geographically located in Europe, the US, and Asia.
