Skeleton Technologies appoints David Arsenault as senior vice president of business development

Estonian supercapacitor designer Skeleton Technologies has appointed David Arsenault as a senior vice president of business development. He will take over the role of Sebastian Pohlmann, who has been working as Skeleton's VP of business development from 2021 until 2024.

In his new role, Arsenault will focus on developing business expansion, e-mobility strategies, new application development, and increasing Skeleton’s presence in North America. Arsenault plans to help OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) reduce CO2 and improve the efficiency of their vehicles by integrating the SuperBattery into their vehicle architecture.

The new senior VP of business development has a master's degree and a PhD in engineering research on developing more efficient powertrains for heavy-duty vehicles using real operating data. During his career, Arsenault has filed more than 30 patents related to supercapacitor technologies.

In 2008, Arsenault founded Effenco Development, a company focused on the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles using supercapacitors. The company had raised over $40M, and Effenco’s assets were later acquired by Canadian motor vehicle manufacturer Martinrea International in July 2022. Arsenault was responsible for business development at Martinrea International until May 2024.

Founded in Tallinn in 2009 by Taavi Madiberk and Oliver Ahlberg, Skeleton Technologies manufactures supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors. They have high power density, fast charging and discharging, extreme temperature tolerance, and a lifetime of more than 1M charge-discharge cycles. The company has developed a carbon nanomaterial curved graphene to manufacture supercapacitors and superbatteries. This material gives them power and energy density. Supercapacitors can be used for automotive, transportation, grid, renewable energy, and industrial applications.
