Cofounder of Estonian Bolt Martin Villig invested in Spanish fintech Student Finance

UPD: According to Martin Villig, he hasn't participated in the new round of investment. He invested in Student Finance only in 2021.

Cofounder of Estonian mobility unicorn Bolt Martin Villig invested in Madrid-based fintech Student Finance. A €39M round was led by Portuguese fund Iberis Capital (equity financing) and Paris-based asset manager SmartLenders Asset Management (debt financing). Other European venture funds and business angels also participated in this round.

StudentFinance is a fintech platform that gives loans for education. The startup offers to pay for specific courses, such as data science, UX/UI design, software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and climate/green economy. After the course finishes and a student finds a job, Student Finance starts charging 12% of his salary, so that he can pay off the loan in about two years. The student doesn’t have to pay during his studying.

The company will use the funding to launch the platform in the UK and Germany. Student Finance will continue expanding in the Spanish market, having partnered with the European Investment Fund. StudentFinance was founded in 2019 in Madrid. It operates in Spain, Portugal, and the UK. Martin Villig has already participated in a €5,3M round of Student Finance together with other business angels and venture funds in 2021.
