Estonian Scorestars closes after four years of operation
Estonian basketball fan engagement platform Scorestars is shutting down after four years of operation. According to co-founder Marek Kesküll, after changing their line of business, they failed to attract their first paying customer fast enough, which made it impossible to continue operations.
Scorestars was founded in Estonia in 2020 by Marek Kesküll, Martin Lond, and Samuel Vard. The company's goal was to help sports clubs and leagues stay relevant in the digital world. They created digital sports teams for fans. The company has had multi-year partnerships with Turkey, Israel, Lithuania, and the Basketball Champions League. Scorestars has also created an active community to expose their young audience to professional sports.
In 2023 the company raised €725K from prominent investors to expand into new markets, run marketing campaigns and hire new talent. The deal involved Estonia's Trind VC, Startup Wise Guys, Portugal's 3 Comma Capital and several business angels.
