Spanish company Repsol acquires a stake in Estonian Stargate Hydrogen

Spanish energy company Repsol has acquired a 3,6% stake in Stargate Hydrogen, an Estonian company developing technology for efficient and cost-effective hydrogen production.

Stargate Hydrogen is a Tallinn-based startup founded in 2021 that specializes in the production and use of green hydrogen using advanced ceramic-based electrolysis technologies. The company has developed a patented technology aimed at increasing the reliability of hydrogen production throughout the project life cycle and minimizing equipment wear and tear. The startup's customers include major European companies Fortum, Utilitas, ABB. The deal with Repsol follows Stargate Hydrogen’s €11M Series A round and the opening of its electrolyser factory in Estonia earlier this year.

The investment from Repsol will help Stargate Hydrogen expand its manufacturing capacity, accelerate research and development (R&D) initiatives, and strengthen its commercial operations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Repsol is a Spanish multinational energy and petrochemical company. Repsol was ranked the 320th largest public company in the world in the Forbes Global 2000 ranking for 2022. It was founded in 1987. Its headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain.
