Estonian-founded Starship Technologies launches robot deliveries in Leeds
Estonian-founded Starship Technologies, in partnership with Uber Eats, has launched autonomous robot delivery in Leeds, UK. According to the companies, it will help to cope with the seasonal surge in orders, which traditionally increase during the holidays.
Founded in 2014 by Skype co-founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, Starship Technologies is the autonomous delivery company. Starship’s robots can deliver orders in less than 30 minutes over distances of up to 2 kilometers and operate at Level 4 autonomy, although they are always monitored so that assistance can be provided if necessary. The robots have already delivered more than 9M orders worldwide. The devices are battery-powered and travel mainly on sidewalks, helping to reduce traffic congestion and emissions. The company's American partners include Grubhub, while its European partners include Bolt, Wolt from DoorDash, and Foodora from Delivery Hero. Starship’s business headquarters are in San Francisco.
Uber (Uber Technologies Inc.) is an American international public company based in San Francisco, which has created a digital intermediary platform for finding, calling and paying for taxis or private drivers, as well as food delivery.
