Estonian fund SmartCap invests €3M in Nordic Science Investments I
Estonian SmartCap has invested €3M in Finnish fund Nordic Science Investments I (NSI), which specializes in advanced technologies, healthcare technologies, and biomedical sciences.
According to Mart Maasik, general partner at NSI, SmartCap's investment will help the company strengthen and systematize links between the scientific and entrepreneurial ecosystems of the Nordic countries and Estonia.
SmartCap was established in Tallinn in 2021 as a subsidiary of the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency. SmartCap manages two common closed-end alternative investment funds: SmartCap Venture Capital Fund and SmartCap Green Fund. The CEO of SmartCap is Sille Pettai.
Founded in 2024 in Helsinki, Finland, Nordic Science Investments I specializes in research and development startups and university projects in Northern Europe, working closely with more than 12 leading regional universities, including Estonia's top universities. NSI's portfolio includes 19 companies, including the Estonian startup Mu-Ray Tech.
