Venture capital firm Plural invests in German-British Hypersonica

Venture capital firm Plural led a €23.3M Series A round in German-British startup Hypersonica. Other investors included the Germany’s Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation (SPRIND), General Catalyst, and 201 Ventures.

Hypersonica is a German-British aerospace startup that develops hypersonic missiles. The company uses a modular architecture that allows for rapid equipment upgrades and shorter, more cost-effective development cycles compared to traditional defense programs. Hypersonica was founded in 2023 by Oxford University PhDs and Germans Dr. Marc Ewenz and Dr. Philipp Kerth. The company is headquartered in Munich, with a wholly owned subsidiary in London.

The funds raised will accelerate Hypersonica's plan to conduct full-scale flight tests, which will begin in the first quarter of 2026.

Founded in 2022 by Estonian entrepreneurs Sten Tamkivi, Taavet Hinrikus, Ian Hogarth, and Khaled Helioui, Plural focuses on leading early-stage rounds between €1M and €10M. In 2023, a new partner, AI-driven biotech HelixNano founder, and VC investor Carina Namih joined Plural. The fund has its own rule that requires all of Plural's partners to make personal co-investments in the deals they lead.

General Catalyst is a venture capital fund that supports innovative startups and companies that can change their industries by offering innovative products or services. General Catalyst was founded in 2000 in Massachusetts (USA) by Joel Cutler and David Fialkow.

201 Ventures is a venture capital firm founded in 2023 in Spain. The firm specializes in supporting early-stage companies (pre-seed and seed) in the defense, intelligence, and dual-use technology sectors.
