Latvian deep tech Empyrio raised €650K to develop its industrial prototype
Latvian deep tech Empyrio has raised €650K from Latvian Commercialization Reactor Seed Fund and European investment fund EIT InnoEnergy, which invests in startups aimed to contribute to sustainable energy. The deal was closed in December 2022.
Empyrio develops a compact sewage sludge utilization system for on-site installation at small and medium size wastewater treatment plants. The company’s technology provides a complex pre-drying and subsequent burning of high-moisture organic waste. The system burns it by itself without using additional side energy sources and raw materials, ensuring the cyclicity of the process.
Empyrio will use the new investments together with a grant of €129K from Norway Grant (EEA and Norway Grants) to develop an industrial-scale prototype and demonstrate it within 2023. Later on, the company plans to raise the next investment round to launch its product into the market.
Empyrio is a Latvian startup, established in 2018 by Alexander Belskiy. The company participated in the acceleration programs of the Commercialization Reactor Fund in 2018 and EIT Climate-KIC (co-funded by European Union) in 2019 and 2020.
Commercialization Reactor Seed Fund offers a deep tech-oriented acceleration program in Riga. It invests up to €50K at the pre-seed stage and offers up to €250K as a follow-up investment. The organization was founded by Nikolai Adamovitch in 2009.
