Three Estonian startups will receive investments as winners of Startup Day 2023

Three Estonian startups will receive investments as winners of Startup Day, which was hosted in Tartu from 15 to 17 March. 

Estonian startup Paul-Tech will receive €200K syndicate investment from Estonian Business Angels Network (EstBAN). The investment was led by EstBAN Board member Mait Sooaru. The startup will use investments to expand to the UK and Swedish markets. Paul-Tech develops a soil station that lets farmers monitor plant growth conditions and in-soil processes in real-time. That allows using farming practices that are gentler on the soil and the environment as well as optimizing the distribution of limited resources. The company was founded in 2019 by Mikk Plakk, Tiit Plakk, Eve Plakk and Anu Einberg. 

Tartu-based Gearbox Biosciences will receive €125K from Baltic Sandbox Ventures. Biotechnology company Gearbox Biosciences is eliminating antibiotics from protein production. It provides a new technology for decoupling protein production from cell growth. It was founded in 2021 by Arvi Jõers, Marje Kasari, and Villu Kasari. It is a spin-off company from the University of Tartu.

Tallinn-based deep tech MX Labs will get a €100k syndicate investment from Cocoon Ventures. MX Labs is developing a camera-based holistic health assessment for the early detection and prevention of chronic diseases. With the help of camera-based technology Shen.AI, it analyzes facial skin texture and extracts vital physiological signs in real-time. Also, it applies a contactless optical measurement technique for recording face blood pulsations at different vascular depths. It was founded in 2020 by Remi Koscielny, Przemek Jaworski. It has offices in Tallinn and Wrocław (Poland).
