Turnover of Estonian startups from Tartu county reached €24,5M in the first quarter of 2023

Turnover of Estonian startups from Tartu county reached €24,5M in the first quarter of 2023. It is 13% more than in the same period of the last year. The data was provided by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.

According to the Data of the Commercial Register and Startup Estonia, 108 tech companies were operating in Tartu County by the end of the first quarter of this year. They paid €3,9M of labor taxes to the state, which is 7% of all labor taxes in the Estonian startup sector.

The highest turnover showed SMS lead generation service for businesses Messente Communications (€5,5M), digital customer service provider and unicorn Glia (€3,4M), and an electronic sauna heater controlled through the application HUUM (€2,4M).

By the end of the first quarter of 2023, 764 people were employed in startups of Tartu County. It is 8% of the people, employed in all Estonian startups. 150 employees worked at Glia, 46 - at SaaS platform for managing routes, inventory, pricing, reservations, and distribution in ground transport Turnit, and 40 were employed at SaaS platform that connects suppliers and distributors on the digital car rental market Car Rental Gateway.

The biggest payers of labor taxes were Glia (€1,2M), on-demand metal fabrication platform Fractory (€300K), and Turnit (€280K).

Last year, five startups in Tartu County exceeded the ten-year age limit, and their data are no longer included in this year's statistics, including the exit of one start-up in Tartu County last year.
