Bolt partnered with Estonian autonomous delivery vehicles Starship Technologies
Estonian mobility unicorn Bolt partnered with Estonian provider of autonomous delivery services Starship Technologies. As a result, the customers of one of the Bolt services, a restaurant food delivery platform Bolt Food, will get more delivery options that accommodate different order sizes, preferences, and distances. Starship delivery robots will begin delivering with Bolt Food in Tallinn as a pilot program, working in tandem with courier partners.
Bolt was founded in Tallinn in 2013 by Markus Villig. Later Martin Villig and Oliver Leisalu joined the company. Bolt offers ride-hailing services, shared cars and scooters, and food and grocery delivery. It has 100M customers in 45 countries across Europe and Africa.
Starship Technologies was founded by Ahti Heinla (co-founder and ex-chief technical architect at Skype) and Janus Friis (Skype co-founder) in 2014. The company robots are designed to deliver food, groceries, and packages locally in minutes. It has offices in Estonia, Helsinki, Finland, London, and Milton Keynes, UK. Starship’s business headquarters is in San Francisco.
