Estonian VC Superangel invested in Copenhagen-based startup BeCause
Estonian firm Superangel invested in Copenhagen-based startup BeCause. The €1,9M round was led by Superangel and Danish Ugly Duckling Ventures. US VC Mercato, CEO of UK data infrastructure company Versori Sean Brown, CEO of global financial technology company Circle Sean Evans, and a private investor from the US Patrick Patrong also participated in this round. Co-founder and general partner of Ugly Duckling Ventures Andreas Green Rasmussen will join the board of BeCause management.
Founded in 2021 by Frederik Rubens Steensgaard and Jonas Bruun Jacobsen, BeCause is an AI-powered platform, which helps hotels and travel brands reduce the cost of managing sustainability data. The service unifies and automates these processes. For instance, the platform allows hotels to automate communication between hotels, industry organizations, green certification entities, and booking platforms.
According to the startup, over 22K hotels are streaming and automating sustainability data through BeCause. It also works with more than 50 certifiers, including the Foundation for Environmental Education’s Greenkey, 15 travel booking marketplaces, including Amsterdam-based online travel agency Booking.com, London-based low-cost airline easyJet, Google, etc. BeCause will use the investment for further growth, and will focus on other travel segments, such as corporate travel and destinations.
Founded in 2018 in Tallinn by Veljo Otsason and Rain Rannu, Superangel invests in pre-seed and seed startups from the Baltics and Nordics. The General Partners are Marko Oolo and Mikko Silventola. The fund focuses on deep tech, AI, mobility and logistics, fintech, and SaaS. A typical ticket size is between €300K and €800K. Superangel backed Bolt, Veriff, Pipedrive, Starship Technologies and Nordigen. This year, Superangel invested in Danish autonomous mobile robots for the retail industry Coalescent Mobile Robotics, Finnish AR startup Doublepoint, Estonian agritech Paul-Tech, and Estonian insurtech Value.Space.
