E-residents in Estonia generated €67,4M for the state in 2023
E-residents in Estonia contributed €67,4M to the state budget in 2023. Ukrainians and Turks were among the e-residents who brought the most revenue to the country by paying taxes for their businesses in Estonia. Most entrepreneurs came from Spain (678), 397 founders came from Ukraine, and 345 - from Germany.
In 2023, Estonia received 12,1K applications from those wishing to become Estonian e-residents. 32% of new e-residents started their own business in Estonia. In total, they established 4592 new companies in 2023.
The program was launched by the Estonian Government in 2014 under the leadership of the former CIO for Estonia Taavi Kotka. The program aimed to provide foreign entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and freelancers with access to Estonian digital business services. In 2023, Liina Vahtras became the head of the program.
