Bolt’s founder Markus Villig invests in Swedish fintech Tab
Markus Villig, co-founder and CEO of Bolt, has invested in Swedish startup Tab, which was valued at €2,1M during in an oversubscribed pre-seed round of €210K. Finnish Icebreaker.vc and business angels from Finland Alexander Hanhikoski and Mikko Silventola also participated in the funding.
Founded in Stockholm in 2024 by Calle Mellbin (ex-leader of Bolt's Food in Sweden) and Hector Zarate (ex-senior engineering manager of Spotify), B2B fintech Tab has developed technology that delivers "smart receipts" directly to the consumer’s mobile banking application, linked to their payment cards. The startup's solution aims to eliminate the need for physical receipts.
Tab’s technology connects consumers, banks, POS systems, and merchants. The startup first partners with banks to tap into their large user bases, then gets access to transaction data from the banks and finally generates receipts and pushes them to the users' mobile banking application.
The solution is free for consumers, merchants, and banks. The company plans to generate revenue by partnering with expense management companies that will pay for the integrated solution, or by working with research firms that will pay for the anonymized, aggregated transaction data.
The Swedish company will use the investment to further develop the product and promote it in the market.
Markus Villig is an Estonian billionaire entrepreneur, who founded Bolt, a transportation company that offers ride-hailing services, shared cars and scooters, and food and grocery delivery, in Tallinn in 2013.
