Startup Wise Guys invested in Austrian deeptech software company Somareality

Estonian accelerator and fund Startup Wise Guys has invested in Austrian deeptech software company Somareality. €1,5M round was backed by Austrian Gateway Ventures, Wodak and Partner, Panta Rhei and Manfred Stockmayer, Birdhouse Ventures and Medical Technology Lab.

Founded in Vienna in 2019 by Adrian Brodesser and Michel Varilek, Benedikt Gollan, Somareality has developed a cognitive monitoring solution based on eye tracking. Until now, this could only be done in a laboratory using the EEG method, the results of which could only be read by specialists.

The startup has developed algorithms based on eye-tracking data and neuropsychological tests. The algorithms detect small, unconscious changes in the pupils, and these effects are controlled directly by the central nervous system. As a result, the eye-tracking procedure allows a deep real-time understanding of the current cognitive state of the user. Eye-tracking data can be collected by any webcam, smartphone, or VR headset.

The technology is already being used by customers such as German airline Lufthansa, US biotech company Intuitive Surgical (manufacturer of surgical robotics), Austrian Armed Forces, and the healthcare organization NHS. The startup will use the investment to develop its technology further and find more international customers.
